His work in psychopharmacology includes the study, diagnosis, and treatment of problems related to drug abuse and addiction. Since 1983, he has served on the Advisory Board of the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs. Between 1967-73 and in 1978-79, he wrote the Hip Pocrates column, a syndicated newspaper feature which answered questions about sexuality, as well as psychoactive drugs. During this time, he was elected to the Board of Directors of Modern Medicine, a periodical for physicians, and produced a series of articles for that publication about sex and drug issues. He has also written numerous articles on these topics for other medical journals and for popular magazines.
