Being a Series of Twenty-Three Letters from Dame Shirley (Mrs. Louise Amelia Knapp Smith Clappe) To Her Sister in Massachusetts, and Now Reprinted from the Pioneer Magazine of 1854-55 with Synopses of the Letters, a foreword, and Many Typographical and other Corrections and Emendations, by Thomas C. Russell Together with "An Appreciation" by Mrs. M.V.T. Lawrence, Illustrated. San Francisco, Printed by Thomas C. RUssell, at his Private Press, 1922. This copy is No. 391 of 450 numbered and signed copies, part of the 2nd batch of 200, being the batch printed on Exeter book-paper. Signed by the editor Thomas C. Russell and in a custom slipcase. Textured green paper boards, buff cloth spine, matching green dust wrapper. Book and wrapper have paper spine labels, label on DJ has a tiny tear. 8vo. (l) 350pp. 8 full-page black & white plates (including frontispiece) with tissue guards; decorative chapter headings, endings and initials in blue. Clean text, tight binding, very light wear to exterior of book and slipcase, Dustwrapper slightly discolored from sliding in and out of slipcase over the years, light wear at top edge of dustwrapper, slipcase lightly sunfaded around edges. We have a rather large collection of Western Americana that we acquired from one John Brunt of Walla Walla, Washington. Brunt owned and operated a bookstore in Glendale, CA for many years, crafting beautiful custom slipcases for many of the books in his Western Americana collection numbering nearly a thousand titles.
